"Renegades in Yellow" / 12" x 9" I remember the healing smell of salt air as I walked toward the beach. These yellow flowers danced in the breeze of the salty air and I remember how they seemed perfectly misplaced on the sandy landscape. How wonderful that life finds a way in the most unexpected places. Simple MaterialsThe spontaneity of painting can be increased when the supplies are simple, limited and easily accessible. I loved the results when using this unsanded Canson Black drawing paper combined with using only Prismacolor Nupastels.
This is a cost effective, practical and great way to add life and energy to your work. Give it a try. Thanks for visiting my blog! For more art instruction or to support my work please visit: www.Patreon.com/SusanJenkins

Would you have goten a similar effect if you would have used soft pastels?

Not really as the soft pastels fill up what little tooth there is to the paper, and you get muddied colors more quickly. I find that the very soft pastels can be used at the end for some drama, but avoiding them early on gives you the ability to keep it fresh with a tad more layering. Great question by the way.

I’m having a difficult time finding time to paint or draw! I have been considering putting together a small box of materials to grab and go. I just wasn’t sure what to put inside, now I know to use my small pack of Nupastels I got for Christmas along with kneaded rubber eraser, charcoal pencil, atc and drawing pad. Thanks for the inspiration!
